Hello we're Charities in Focus

...we love charities, we think they're absolutely amazing.

So we're leading a movement to make charities happier, positive, and more productive workplaces.

Over here we like keeping things simple and we really believe - Happier Charities create a Greater Impact.

And get this! There's science to prove it! We use an evidence-based approach to work with charities to make their workplaces and staff happier.

So, how can we help you and your team find joy in (at least) 80% of your work?

Read more below to see how we use our Positive Psychology approach.

So, what's the deal with Positive Psychology?

What Positive Psychology isn't

Positive Psychology is at the heart of everything we do here so it's really important to us that we're all on the same page.

Positive psychology is not 'happy-ology'. We don't teach you how to make everyone happy and positive all the time because that's not what positive psychology is about and it's also just simply unrealistic.

It's also not about fixing people. Positive psychology is about improving and changing your well-being, yes we agree 100%. But it's definitely not a 'you're sick so this will make you better' cure all.

So, what is Positive Psychology?

The geniuses behind the term define it as:

"the scientific study of positive human functioning and flourishing on multiple levels that include the biological, personal, relational, institutional, cultural, and global dimensions of life"

Martin Seligman and Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, 2000

Now don't get us wrong, we think it's a cracking definition, but it didn't fit on our business cards so we've tweaked it just a little bit.

Fundamentally, positive psychology is about well-being. It's about making people happier, more content, kinder to themselves and other people.

(It already sounds pretty good right?)

Positive psychology is about letting yourself become more optimistic. People who are more optimistic that things will go right become more in love with what they do. They're more goal-oriented, they celebrate things, they work better and because of this they have better futures.

Okay, I think I get it now, but how does it work for charities?

Well, the simple premise of it is: charities who use a positive psychology approach work better.

  • Charities become filled by people who actually really want to work there and are optimistic and committed to their jobs.

  • They have employees who have a clear sense that what they do matters and is actually really important.

  • Leaders who set and deliver strategies that are considerate and thoughtful but are also positive and realistic.

  • All centred around a culture that's kind and respectful where everyone knows they are valued.

Because a charity that works better = a happier charity

And Happier Charities create a Greater Impact.
